About Us
Nicol Thomas Architects

“Willowfields” is located in the residential village of Coseley about 3 miles north of Dudley.  The scheme consists of 72  extra care apartments of 1 and 2 bedrooms and extensive communal facilities.

The site is “L” shaped and approximately 2.3 acres.  Its former use included a residential care home which remained in use until the first phase of the development was completed.  Demolition of this existing building then brought the remaining phases into the construction process.

Adjoining the site is an “Old Meeting House” recorded in the Local Authority “Sites and Monuments Records”.  The new development is set back to preserve important views of the western façade of the Old Meeting House.  It also sits alongside an existing railway which required us to deliver a robust acoustic insulation solution

The Communal Hub contains a Hobby Room to encourage residents to share skills whilst spaces such as the Multi Purpose Hall and Lounge Social Bar promote social interaction.  The concept of community extends to the heart of the design and “Willowfields” has received a “Gold Award in the UK Housing and Care Scheme Awards” (EAC) 2011.
