St Mary’s

Award winning development of 93 new build dwellings on a brownfield site providing a range of between 2 and 5 bedroom houses including disabled adaptations.  The scheme was designed as a mix of Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and 6 dwellings.  The Code Level 3 houses were constructed using timber frame, with some upgraded to Code Level 4 through the addition of photovoltaic panels which were a requirement of Planning.  The Code 6 houses utilised Porotherm blocks and incorporated green roofs and photovoltaic panels.  Once on site the Client decided to incorporate some Passivhaus dwellings and two units were adapted slightly in their design to suit this standard.  These units used traditional construction techniques but were extremely well insulated with triple glazed windows and a high specification ventilation system.  Both units were certified to Passivhaus standard and residents now enjoy minimal heating bills.

This development has a contemporary aesthetic and utilises high quality materials.  The streetscene is varied with an urban frontage consisting of gabion walling and differing roof lines.  The new access road runs around a large landscaped area which has informal seating and hosts community events.
