South Birmingham College

The refurbishment of two Grade II listed buildings alongside new build elements was the catalyst to enable new facilities for media education, visual arts and the performing arts.  The development incorporated a 500 retractable seating auditorium, drama studios, television and radio recording facilities, library, exhibition area, restaurant and bar.

Due to the historic nature in the site the refurbishment process had to accommodate an archaeological dig across the whole site, in phases requiring the use of contiguous sheet piling.  We subsequently designed in the innovative solution of utilising this excavation process to create basement parking, thereby giving the client an unanticipated bonus of additional parking provision.
