Shenley Wood Phase 1 + 2

This 300 apartment Extra Care retirement village was constructed in two phases.  The 10 acre site is situated 2.5 miles South of Milton Keynes town centre in a woodland setting of ecological importance with significant changes of ground level.  Extensive Wildlife and habitat surveys, together with a detailed site analysis informed the location and massing of the village.

The village entrance is positioned to be easily located from the main site entrance.  The village centre is the public face of the development and includes: Village Hall (dancing, fitness classes, bingo), shop, hairdresser, launderette (to encourage independence), bar and restaurant (social interaction) and IT, craft facilities and woodwork room (for development of new skills).  These communal facilities are laid out as a village square and street with shop fronts, street furniture, trees and street lighting providing places for social interaction.

The apartments are clustered into residential wings with secure access from the village hub.  These are connected by glazed links which provide natural light and ventilation to the corridors.  The route from the apartments to the village also include winter gardens and gallerias.

All the apartments have a wide frontage and single aspect layout.  The scheme design fully complies with current HCA scheme design standards, building for life and has Secure by Design Accreditation.
