Earsldon Phase 1

This retirement village on a former Coventry College site comprises 260 1 and 2 bed apartments with communal facilities for the ExtraCare Charitable Trust. The building, ExtraCare’s first project in their home city of Coventry, creates a landmark within a complex context comprising of an adjacent 6 storey mixed use development, a raised railway line running along one boundary and the wider 2 storey residential area.

The design responds to these conditions with a 10 storey block located to the rear of the site, where a sky lounge provides views over Coventry. A lower block addresses the railway line and combines with a portico to create an approachable frontage to the street. Existing trees along the boundary are retained to further help the building fit in with the surrounding area.

The village centre includes a main hall, bistro, games room and greenhouse and workshop. The range of communal spaces allows individuals to choose how much or how little they wish to engage with other residents through a wide variety of activities
